GALESBURG — David Blake and Trisha Blake-Millar, who happen to be cousins, are Galesburg’s Men’s and Women’s All-City Champions.
Blake-Millar led wire-to-wire this week in the 51st edition of the women’s tourney for her third crown. She finished with a 232, and Gail Hannam took second place with a 240.
“I wasn’t expecting too much because I haven’t been able to play much this summer, but my putter came through for me all week,” Blake-Millar said. “I think it’s cool that Blakes won both the men and women’s tournament.”
Cheri Hosteng fired a 159 to hold off Hannam by a stroke for the women’s senior title. Hosteng won her first senior championship last summer, and she has won the overall title on 11 different occasions. Hannam has claimed two Women’s All-City titles (1996, 2010), and she has played in the tourney since its inception in 1972. She won both the senior and overall title in 2010, and Hannam has secured 11 Senior All-City titles.
Two weeks ago, David Blake secured his fourth men’s title in five years. He won the event from 2019-2021. Last summer, Mike Tapper secured a two-stroke victory over David Blake and Cory Scott, who tied for second at 148.
On Friday, July 7, Blake (73) and Tapper (73) sat in a tie atop the field after the first round of action at Soangetaha Country Club. With 144s, Tyson LaNore and Blake were tied for the lead after the second round of play, which took place Saturday, July 8 at Bunker Links. Blake fired a 69 in the final round on Sunday, July 9 at Lake Bracken for a 213 in the event, and he ended up with a six stroke win over Jason Runbom.
